Remedies Renewing Lives to launch Human Trafficking Program

Remedies Renewing Lives is excited to announce we are launching a new human trafficking program thanks to a grant from the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority. The program will expand Remedies’ ability to serve people who have experienced sex and/or labor trafficking. The program will provide specialized case management services and will collaborate with community partners to meet the need of those we serve.

Remedies Renewing Lives currently serves survivors of domestic violence, individuals struggling with addiction, and mental health issues. It has become increasingly apparent as Remedies provides these services, that there is an obvious intersection with human trafficking, domestic violence, and substance abuse. Often times, survivors receiving services at Remedies have experienced human trafficking, but may not have yet identified it.

Remedies’ Chief Operating Officer, Laurie Graciana, will be heading up the project implementation and will work to hire is anti-trafficking case managers. Soon after the positions are filled, Remedies will begin taking new clients.

Local statistics about Human Trafficking can be hard to come by, but the need is so apparent through the survivors we serve at Remedies. The latest data in Illinois from 2021 states the human trafficking hotline received 929 calls, the majority of cases being identified as sex trafficking.
